Melons, like Pumpkins, are subject to gravity and will break into five Mashed Melon if they fall some distance, possible at 5 blocks, guaranteed at 15. They are coveted as an effective mid-game food source and a great reward for exploring Abandoned Mineshafts, especially to use the seeds in order to make Chicken Feed and collect Eggs.
