Better Than Wolves is organized into distinct "Ages" that represent different stages of the player's technological progress. Each Age in turn may be organized into separate Tiers that represent separate tasks that the player must achieve in order to progress to the next.

The following instructions are organized chronologically in terms of what the player must accomplish in order to progress forward in the mod. If you are just starting out with Better Than Wolves, then it is recommend you commence at the top of the instructions and work your way downwards. This mod is rather complex, and organizing the mod in this fashion can help make it all easier to digest for a new player.

Era of Survival

Age of Wood

Primary Goals of This Tier

Gather stones to make into sharp stones

Make basic tools such as a stone Shovel or Axe.

Gather and dry enough clay for an Oven.

Secondary Goals of This Tier

Kill Animals for Food and cook it over a Campfire.

Requirements to move to the next Tier

Construct an Oven.

Age of Brick

Entry Requirements to This Age

Construct an Oven.

Primary Goals of This Tier

Mine enough Iron to make a Chisel.

Secondary Goals of This Tier

Find Sugar Cane in swamps and weave baskets to store things.

Kill sheep and knit their Wool to make Armor.

Requirements to move to the next Tier

Craft a Chisel and use it to make a Work Stump.

Age of Iron

Entry Requirements to This Age

Craft a Chisel and use it to make a Work Stump.

Primary Goals of This Tier

Craft a stone Pickaxe to more effectively mine Iron.

Continue mining Iron to make iron tools.

Delve deeper into caves and mine for diamonds.

Secondary Goals of This Tier

Make a Millstone.

Start farming Hemp to make a windmill.

Obtain Dung from wolves (wild or tamed).

Construct a Saw.

Requirements to move to the next Tier

Craft a diamond Pickaxe and use it to mine Obsidian.

Age of Flame

Entry Requirements to This Age

Craft a diamond Pickaxe and use it to mine Obsidian.

Primary Goals of This Tier

Travel to the Nether to obtain Netherrack and Soul Sand.

Use Soul Sand Piles to find a Nether Fortress and collect Blaze Rods.

Secondary Goals of This Tier

Expand mechanical power and automate Millstone grinding.

Make permanent torches using nether coal.

Find and capture animals

Requirements to move to the next Tier

Grind and filter Netherrack in order to make a Hibachi.

Era of Automation

Age of Pottery

Entry Requirements to This Age

Use bellows and a hibachi to stoke fire under a Kiln.

Primary Goals of This Tier

Make a Crucible for more advanced material processing.

Capture souls from the nether in Soul Urns.

Secondary Goals of This Tier

Make Planters to start growing crops without weeds.

Requirements to move on to the next Tier

Find a non-abandoned Village

Age of Commerce

Entry Requirements to This Age

Cure villagers using Soul Urns.

Primary Goals of This Tier

Trade with villagers to level them up.

Secondary Goals of This Tier

Begin farming wheat and other crops for more sustainable food.

Create automated farms and factories to supply the requests of villagers.

Requirements to move on to the next Tier

Obtain at least three Infused Skulls to summon the Wither.

Age of Souls

Entry Requirements to This Age

Defeat the Wither and obtain a Soulforge.

Primary Goals of This Tier

Obtain several eyes of ender from a max level librarian.

Secondary Goals of This Tier

Expand automation with the tech unlocked by the Soulforge.

Construct beacons to expand your capabilities.

Requirements to move on to the next Tier

Find a Stronghold and enter the End.

A New Era

Age of Steel

Entry Requirements to This Age

Defeat the Ender Dragon.

Goals of This Tier

Create tools and armor made of Steel.

Create a Steel Beacon to anchor your spawn location.

Set up an Infernal Enchanter to enchant your steel gear.
