Shovels are simple tools for digging through dirt, gravel, sand, soul sand, and for harvesting clay. While it is possible to dig slowly by hand, a shovel other than stone will prevent blocks breaking into piles and materials being lost. Higher quality shovels will also increase the probability of gravel blocks providing flint. Shovels other than Soulforged Steel can be left embedded in dirt, gravel, sand and soul sand for storage.

Gold Shovel

Prevents adjacent dirt blocks from becoming loose dirt and being subject to gravity.
(Gold has poor durability.)
