The Stone Shovel allows the player to get Clay Balls instead of Clay Piles when mining Clay by hand. Like all stone tools, it has very low speed and durability, and requires String or Sinew to be crafted.
Mining grass or dirt with a Stone shovel will turn any adjacent dirt or grass block into Loose Dirt, so digging a shelter for the first night requires some planning.
