Loose Cobblestone is the basic form of cobblestone in BTW. Unlike in vanilla minecraft, mining regular Cobblestone or Smooth stone will only wield loose cobblestone blocks. Those blocks are subjected to gravity, just like sand and gravel.
Cobblestone blocks (whether loose or not) can be mined without any tools, and will drop a full loose cobblestone block that can be crafted into 8 loose stones.
Right clicking a loose block with mortar in your hand (such as clay, slimeball or nether sludge) will transform it into its normal, gravity-defying form.
When placing loose cobblestone next to non-loose cobblestone, it will float for a couple seconds before falling. This gives the player a chance to mortar it before it falls and helps while building out of stone.

Natural Generation
Loose cobblestone cannot be found in the world.
However, Cobblestone occurs naturally as part of some structures such as Villages, Jungle temples and dungeons.
Usage
- Cobblestone (both the loose and regular version) that is within a certain distance of a Monster Spawner is converted to Mossy Cobblestone over time.
Keep in Mind
- Normal (non-loose) cobblestone can only be obtained in the inventory using a Block Dispenser or the Silk Touch enchantment. Mining mortared cobblestone or Smooth Stone with a stone pickaxe will only return 6 Stones, while mining it with an iron or better pickaxe will yield Loose Cobblestone.
