When mechanical power is supplied through an Axle to the bottom of the Turntable, it rotates any blocks placed on top of it by fixed 90 degree increments, and performs this rotation on up to 2 blocks above. Any items attached to blocks (like torches) rotated in this fashion are also rotated along with them. This device has several uses ranging from creating multi-way Minecart intersections (by rotating the rails themselves), to creating redstone-based timers by attaching redstone torches to the sides of rotated blocks and using them to power wires leading away from the overall assembly.
A switch on the side of the Turntable allows for 4 different delay settings on the rotation. Note that you must click on the Turntable *with an empty hand* in order to adjust the switch (to avoid confusion when attempting to place blocks on it). This allows for configuration of how long it takes for the Turntable to perform each 90 degree rotation, with the lowest setting representing a delay of 1/2 second, and each increment above that multiplying the previous delay by 2 (1 second, 2 seconds, 4 seconds).
The default direction of rotation is counter-clockwise. If you apply a redstone signal directly into the Turntable, the direction of the rotation will be inverted (set to clockwise) for as long as the redstone power is on. The direction will return to normal when the redstone is unpowered.

Pottery Making | Using the Turntable to make Unfired Pottery out of Clay blocks. Up to two blocks above the Turntable will rotate. However you cannot make 2 Unfired Clay at once, since it requires a solid block under it, or it breaks into an item form. The redstone torch has no use here, and is just present to help visualize the rotation of the turntable.
Redstone Timer/ Redstone Clock |
Using the Turntable to make Redstone timers. Each Turntable is on a different setting, which can be changed by right clicking with an empty hand on the turntable. With its 4 different settings, it is a much more versatile timer than using Repeaters, and is more reliable. It is especially used in combination with the Bellows to make Stocked Fire.
Redstone Timer/ Redstone Clock |
Top down view of the same setup. Focus on one turntable and the 4 Light Blocks around it in a '+' shape to see the different timings. The first turntable makes a full rotation in 2s, the second in 4s, the third in 8s and the fourth in 16s.
Redstone Timer/ Redstone Clock |
Turntables can be paired to get an even bigger range, as long as you keep them on the same setting. For example: The first turntable, which is rotating a purple block, is on the second setting, so a redstone torch attached to the side will make a full rotation in 2 seconds. You can keep track of its speed by looking at the 4 light blocks in a '+' shape above it. The second turntable, which is rotating a yellow block, is turned off by the redstone torch placed on the Sandstone block, powering off the Redstone Clutch below. It is only rotating once for every full rotation of the first, purple turntable. So the yellow turntable needs 4 full rotations of the yellow turntable (4 x 2 seconds) to make a full rotation (8 seconds). Each full rotation of the yellow turntable is shown from the dispenser, the piston and the light blocks on the left side. |
