Summary

The Block Dispenser varies from the regular Item Dispenser by placing actual blocks, working Minecarts, Boats and Redstone (Wire) in front of it. It also dispenses its contents in order from left to right. When receiving power the dispenser will place the object and when power is cut, the dispenser will remove it.

Applications

Keep in Mind

  • It must be crafted on an Anvil
  • Redstone
    • Wire - Can be powered when redstone wire is powered on top of the dispenser.
    • Torch (Will flick on, then off and remain off)
      • Will be powered once when power is place to the dispenser.
      • Will be powered twice (once when power is received and once when cut) when power is run on the top of the dispenser.
    • Repeater - Will always be powered. (Doesn't need to have redstone wire on top)
  • Moss Stone - Cobble stone in the vicinity of monster spawners will slowly turn into moss stone, which makes it possible to farm moss stone. The area of this effect around monster spawners is roughly the same size of dungeons.
  • As of 2.92, Will not pick up Wheat that has not fully matured.
  • When it picks up something in front of it, only that item will enter the Block Dispenser inventory (i.e: If picking up wheat, and seeds that would have been dropped if it had been broken normally by hand will not appear at all either inside the Dispenser or on the ground).
  • As of 2.97, Will pick up and place whole Mellons
  • As of 3.45, Will pick up the following block types without altering them: dirt with grass, book shelves, coal ore, lapis ore, diamond ore, redstone ore, giant mushroom blocks and Mycelium.

Blocks That Cannot be "Sucked" Up

  • Ice
  • Water
  • Lava
  • Bedrock
  • Windmill
  • Waterwheel
  • Tall grass and the dead plants
  • Double half slaps (will only be picked up as one half slap)
  • Fire
  • Stoked Fire
  • Paintings
  • Cement

Blocks That Will be "Spit" Out as Items

  • Signs
  • Doors
  • Windmills
  • Waterwheels
  • Beds

Exceptions

  • Levers, buttons, and trapdoors need a block to be placee on opposite the BD
  • Portal (will be destroyed)
  • Axles are places so it touches the "mouth" of the BD
  • Gearboxes are placed with the arrows facing the same direction of the BD "mouth"
  • Panels will always be placed on the wall opposite to the BD
  • Most blocks from other mods can be sucked up and place (covers and wires from RedPower are a notable exception, Buildcraft blocks with the place/remove blocks is another[the block is placed but not the area of the digging/placing])
