Black Stone is the vanilla Block of Quartz but Flower Child changed the texture to black and the name to Black Stone because BTW already had a White Stone before Block of Quartz was added to minecraft. This change further reflects the feel of the nether as an evil hellish environment.

Keep in Mind

All worlds built prior to this change or before installing this mod may become more menacing if Blocks of Quartz was used in the construction of any structures as all Blocks of Quartz will turn into Black Stone.
