Fishing Rods are tools for catching fish from large bodies of water. To bait a fishing rod, craft it with a Spider Eye, Rotten Flesh, a Bat Wing, or a Creeper Oyster. Of course, there are always alternative methods of fishing...

Once bait has been added, cast out your line into a deep body of water source blocks, such as a lake or the ocean, by right clicking. The bobber will shake slightly as it floats in the water, and will dip underwater with a splashing sounds when it has hooked a fish. You will need to quickly right click again to fling the fish towards you. Each successful catch removes the bait and must be replaced to continue fishing.
Flinging
Fishing rods can also hook on to mobs and animals, dealing no damage but causing animals to panic, and right clicking again will cause them to be flung towards you. Flinging when you are further away increases the power of the fling and can cause death to the victim due to fall damage.
