Loose Nether Bricks are a non-naturally spawning block crafted with 8 Nether Brick (Item), typically obtained by breaking Nether Brick or from the firing and crafting of Nether Sludge. Loose Nether Bricks are subject to gravity, but applying Clay, Nether Sludge, or a Slimeball will act as Mortar and turn them into their non-falling variants. Mortar can be applied manually or with a dispenser.
A pickaxe with the Silk Touch enchantment, or a Block Dispenser are the only way to obtain the mortared version of loose blocks, and use them for crafting.
