The vase is a decorative item added in the 2.90 update. It is made by letting a clay block rotate on a Turntable for 6 full rotations before being heated in a brick kiln. The resulting Vase can then be dyed, and placed as a decoration. You can also hide an item in the vase, and breaking the Vase will only give the item back. The Vase itself will not drop upon breaking.
