Hardcore Sheep is a gameplay modification to the way sheep shearing and breeding works. The details of which are still being discovered. Some of the changes are:

  • Sheep have a "natural" wool color. If a sheep is sheared it will regrow its natural color, and not its dyed color.
  • Sheep spawn according to vMC rules with these natural colors: White, Light Gray, Gray, Black, Brown, Pink.
  • Additionally, sheep can spawn with non-vanilla spawn colors (Lime Green confirmed, 4.30).
  • When two sheep of the same natural color are bred, the child's natural color will be the same as the parents' (unless a mutation occurs, see below).
  • When two sheep of different natural colors are bred, the child's natural color will be the same as one of the parents', or a combination of the two (see below) (unless a mutation occurs, see below).
  • It is possible (through mutations and color crossing) to get the entire range of colored sheep starting from just two white sheep (though this takes time and a bit of luck!).
Color Crossing

By breeding two specific naturally colored sheep, you have a chance of mixing their colors for the offspring. Examples of the creation of new colors through selective breeding:

  • White + Black -> Grey
  • White + Grey -> Light Grey
  • White + Purple -> Magenta
  • White + Blue -> Light Blue
  • White + Red -> Pink
  • White + Green -> Lime Green
  • Black + Light Blue -> Blue
  • Black + Lime Green -> Green
  • Black + Pink -> Red
  • Black + Light Grey -> Grey
  • Brown + Pink -> Red
  • Red + Green -> Yellow
  • Green + Blue -> Cyan
  • Blue + Yellow -> Green
  • Yellow + Red -> Orange
  • Red + Blue -> Purple

Note that the color crossing system is based on the computer primary colors (Red, Green, Blue) rather than the traditional primary colors (Red, Yellow, Blue). Bear this in mind when trying to remember cross breeding (or trying to complete a set of sheep from just whites).

Mutations

Sheep can sometimes breed and produce sheep of a completely different color. These are some examples of mutations (if you find/confirm any please add them to the list):
