Hardcore Bucket

This mode prevents the player from being able to transport water & lava source blocks; it is a mode intended to make fluid flow (and by extension, the generation of mechanical power) far more interesting without causing additional performance overhead, by requiring the player to actually build canals and such to have access to liquids.

This mode is the default setting for BtW, although it can be turned off.

The player can drain water using buckets from everywhere, not just water sources - even from waterfalls and canals. When the water is placed, it will not be a source. Instead, it would be a 1x1 block that will quickly disappear, not before destroying any torches and redstone it lands upon, turning lava into obsidian, and activating Detector Blocks.

Notice that the player can drain the water back from the area if he quickly presses right click again. That will NOT make the water disappear.

As of version 3.491, it is impossible to pick lava with a bucket when Hardcore Bucket mode is activated to prevent using lava as an infinite power source in a furnace.

As of version 3.93, vanilla dispensers cannot place and retrieve buckets of liquid when Hardcore Bucket mode is active.

As of version 4.10, Hardcore Bucket is on by default and all players without a BTWConfig file in their .minecraft folder will have it turned on upon upgrading.
