From Better Than Wolves

I don't know the proper format for this, but does anyone else think we should add a compatibility section? This page would have a list of popular mods known to be incompatible with BTW and fixes, if any exist. ~Organum [2:36 AM EST 7/19/10] Edit: Oh wait, there is one already. I alter my suggestion and advise that we make it easier to find, as well as...Well, putting stuff in it.

  • I added a link to the compatibility list on the main page ~Thekyz
  • Rearranged the listing of items to sort by name by default. Please add new items alphabetically --TheGuy 17:50, 31 August 2011 (MDT)
  • Working on adding some of the new additions to 2.94 into the main page's table. ~Hideharu
  • --Oggylt 07:52, 8 November 2011 (MST) i Think we need to ad some box at the top of post indicating newest version and box with recent changes and sends to recent changes page when clicked
    • I think a badge aligned to the right, roughly the size of a standard crafting image that has some picture related to the mod and Latest version 3.10 written on it that links to the BTW forum release topic would probably be the best way to do it. If people are using the wiki, they are already smarter than most users. --TheGuy 16:40, 8 November 2011 (MST)
      • I added an infobox to the main page to do that. Thekyz 14:30, 15 December 2011 (MST)

Breeding Page

Since automated breeding is becoming a big topic, I think we should add a page on various setups and designs. There really isn't much, at the moment.

On the same note, having pages for tree farms/wheat farms/reed farms, etc, would be good too, just showing various designs and how they work.

Many Broken Videos

Many of the youtube videos are tagged as private and as such are not able to be viewed, Is removing the links the suitable action?

--LaserSushi 02:38, 25 August 2012 (EST)

  • Guess so. If you can find an alternative on YouTube do so but if it's broken, no need to keep it. Thekyz

Alright, I Will take down any I notice. If more are needed once I get a less laggy system I will make the videos myself. --LaserSushi

  • I have started editing all video links to make them all work (will be just links, Can't figure out embedding)--NathanJ (talk) 21:58, 21 November 2012 (MST)

Cleanup

I think we are do for a clean-up pass on the front page. There's a lot of good content but it can be hard to navigate for new players. I'd suggest a "New players" section (with links to spoiler-free pages), a "Hardcore Mechanics/Spoilers" section with links to more in-depth guides, particularly focusing on the early/mid game changes, and a "Power and Automation" section focusing on the post-Anvil mechanics (especially automation blocks and suggestions for automated builds).

In all of this, we should be ready to just cut some content if need be. In particular, I think the list of added items/blocks may be a bit excessive for this page?

  • Seems fine to me. I agree we don't need a list of all items and blocks here; perhaps that could be replaced with a link to another page. Also, I think it's probably best to delegate discussion of wiki editing to the forums rather than using the talk pages (assuming you have a forum account). People are more likely to see it and the editing community is small enough that we don't really have to split it into talk pages. (ps you can use four tildes, ~~~~, to leave a signature on talk pages, or three if you don't want to date it.) --Gaga654 (talk) 16:33, 16 July 2018 (MDT)

Introduction to Better Than Wolves

Better Than Wolves is a Minecraft mod that not only adds new items and blocks, but also provides incredible functionality for engineering and design while maintaining the original feel of Minecraft. FlowerChild created BTW since he felt the full potential of the game was not being realized by Mojang for the amount of time they were putting into it. FlowerChild realized the time Mojang spent to create wolves in Minecraft Beta 1.4 and other features in previous releases could have been spent on something with much more functionality and gameplay value. He started a forum thread called "Notch: Wolves Are a Bad Idea", which led to another forum thread challenging the community to come up ideas that were better than wolves, which led, after 5 days of WIP development, to the initial release of the Better Than Wolves mod on April 10, 2011. The mod has been in continuous development since then by FlowerChild, and after his departure, its community, with hundreds of new features and gameplay modes.

New to the mod and need some help getting started? Then this is the page for you. As the most up-to-date section of the wiki, it will help you out a lot if you're new to the mod. This is mandatory reading, as you won't get that much info about the mod in such a simple, condensed, straightforward way on what to do next (without giving away all the strategies and automation options) anywhere else. Give it the 10 minutes of reading it deserves.

New gameplay modes introduced by BTW that both changes fundamental mechanics of Minecraft and challenges the player in new ways: Hardcore Modes

Better Than Wolves is organized into distinct "Ages" that represent different stages of Steve's technological progress. Each Age in turn may be organized into separate Tiers that represent separate tasks that the player must achieve in order to progress to the next.

With the Better Than Wolves mod, the largest addition to Minecraft gameplay is the addition of mechanical power and mechanical devices such as Water Wheels, Wind Mills, Gear Boxes, Redstone Clutches, Axles, and other devices. All mechanical systems can be used in conjunction with redstone power. This addition to Minecraft fleshes out the functional engineering aspect of the game and allows much more creativity in the systems a player may design and construct.

Other Additions and Changes

Besides adding a lot of new features the Mod contains some Miscellaneous Features giving BTW its own unique personality and providing endless entertainment for its players. For a full list of additions and changes the mod provides, see the Better Than Wolves thread on the Minecraft Forums. If you still need information or find yourself confused with this mod, you can always read over the Change log, containing every change and addition in BTW, to find your answer.
