Pile of Soul Sand is obtained when Soul Sand is destroyed or mined without the proper tool (minimum Iron shovel).

Uses
Pile of Soul Sand has two important roles, besides being used to grow Nether Wart:
- When used in the Nether, particles will fly towards the nearest loaded fortress (this only works in a short range, if the fortress is close but not visible).
- When used in the overworld, in multiplayer, it can be used to point to the location of the last respawn point (in the last 9 minutes), meaning that one player can help give direction to its fallen comrade, to help him makes his way back home.
Trivia
Once BTW CE 3.0 is released, the Pile Soul Sand will be able to point to the nearest Nether Fortress, regardless of distance or whether or not it is loaded !
