Smooth Stone

Smooth Stone is a block of solid rock that is found in abundance. Smooth stone can be mined by pickaxes or chipped by chisels to produce Loose Stones and piles of gravel, an iron pickaxe or better will also produce cobblestone, and an Iron Chisel will produce Stone Bricks. Smooth Stone cannot be crafted by any means, it can only be picked up whole by a Block Dispenser or by use of a pickaxe enchanted with Silk Touch.

Stone can be found under layers of grass and dirt in most biomes, mycelium in mushroom islands or under layers of sandstone in deserts. It can also be seen exposed at the side of mountains in extreme hill biomes. Stone found at lower levels will have the effects of Hardcore Stratification, requiring better tools to destroy the blocks. However, harvesting the resources can still be done using lesser tools.

Running lava over Loose Cobblestone or Loose Stone Bricks will convert them into smooth stone, which is the only way to create it. Silverfish will dig into stone, in addition to stone brick and cobblestone. When it does this, it creates a Monster Egg.

While most stone recipes use the more easily obtainable Stone Bricks, Smooth Stone in its raw form can be used to create Minimized Blocks, which are used in advanced decoration and construction, and also used to create some Redstone devices.
