Hibachi

From Better Than Wolves

The Hibachi is the Netherrack of the modern man. When receiving redstone current, the Element inside heats up. The heated element causes the Concentrated Hellfire on the top of the hibachi to ignite, creating a fire in the space above the hibachi. This flame can not be extinguished by hand as the hibachi will re-ignite instantly as long as the hibachi is powered by redstone. Terminating the redstone current and occluding the hibachi's surface with a block are the only two ways to extinguish the flame.

While the strong force exerted by air expelled from the Bellows extinguishes normal fires, it is not strong enough to extinguish the fire of the hibachi. The oxygen in the expelled air from the bellows will raise the temperature of the hibachi fire, causing it to enter a state known as being stoked. Stoked hibachi fire is a requirement for Crucible operations, pottery, and rendering.

Applications

  • Heat source for the Cauldron.
  • Light source.
  • Automatic fire starter (burn leftover Leaves in a tree farm).
  • The only block capable of creating a stoked fire with a Bellows.

Fire Spread

Fire

In BTW, most sources of fire, including Torches, have to be placed carefully to prevent burning down your home. Fire sources will heat up some air blocks around and above them, making any flammable block within range catch fire.

A column of 3x3, 6 high block around the fire (represented by the red block in the pictures below), will make any adjacent flammable block (represented by the glass blocks) burn down.

So in the pictures bellow, you are only to place flammable blocks around the glass blocks:

Flammable materials have to be carefully placed near fire sources or risk burning down.

Minimum safe distance from the fire's heat to use flammable materials

Stoked Fire

Stoked fire is a bit harder to handle, and is often the cause of accidental fires.

Not only is it 2 blocks high, but every sides of the stoked fire are also extremely hot, and can spread fire.

You can consider each blocks around the stoked fire to be actual fire blocks, even though you can't see them :

In the picture above, each of these invisible fire block is represented by a red block, and each of them can spread fire using the range of the regular fire.

Example

Here's the easiest, cheapest way to set up a Crucible :

Only 1 Hibachi is required to make stoked fire and use the recycling properties of the Crucible.

The more Hibachis you add, the faster it cooks.

Here's a maximum speed Crucible, using 9 Hibachis :

Note that only the Fire block above the Hibachi cannot be blocked. The block just above, where the double flame is when the fire is stoked, can be blocked off by any block, making it easy to have your crucible in your floor.

Keep in Mind

  • The more hibachis used, the faster items cook/render/smelt.
  • In order to power a hibachi, one of the best ways is to be directly power each one from beneath.
  • Certain blocks will be deleted when placed on a hibachi (most flammable blocks, blocks of concentrated hellfire etc.)
    • For the blocks to actually be deleted the hibachi must be powered after the blocks have been placed
