Fishing Rod

From Better Than Wolves

Infobox Issue

This page's infobox needs fixing.

Fishing Rods are tools for catching fish from large bodies of water. To bait a fishing rod, craft it with a Spider Eye, Rotten Flesh, a Bat Wing, or a Creeper Oyster. You can also right click the fishing rod in your hand to add bait, if you have it in your hotbar, so you don't have to open your inventory between every fish caught.

Of course, there are always alternative methods of fishing...

Bait can also be applied by right clicking with an unbaited fishing rod with bait on the hotbar. Bait will be consumed from left to right.

Once bait has been added, cast out your line into a deep body of water source blocks, such as a lake or the ocean, by right clicking. The bobber will shake slightly as it floats in the water, and will dip underwater with a splashing sounds when it has hooked a fish. You will need to quickly right click again to fling the fish towards you. Each successful catch removes the bait and must be replaced to continue fishing.

Minimum amount of water required to fish (source blocks only, this can't be flowing water)

(Please note that in version CE 2.X, the range is bugged, and is actually a 5x5 square, 3 deep (5x5x3)

Flinging

Fishing rods can also hook on to mobs and animals, dealing no damage but causing animals to panic, and right clicking again will cause them to be flung towards you. Flinging when you are further away increases the power of the fling and can cause death to the victim due to fall damage.

Hardcore Fishing

Hardcore Fishing describes a set of changes which modify the probabilities of catching fish based on time-of-day, moon phases, and weather.

During the daytime with normal (sunny) weather, the catch rate for fish is low--it's not impossible to catch fish, but it will be fairly slow. The following modifiers affect this baseline rate:

Condition Catch Rate
Night (except during full moon) 4x slower than day
Rain 2x faster than day
Dusk and Dawn 2x faster than day
Full Moon 8x faster than day (maximum speed, does not stack with rain)
Rain during Dawn and Dusk 4x faster than day (half the Full Moon rate)
Rain during Night 2x slower than day
  • The Fishing Rod has 32 durability.
